Safety and quality
Although independent product inspection is not a government requirement, ABC Design works with highly respected testing institutes, like Intertek and TÜV, in order to guarantee total product safety. Indeed, the design aspect may be very important for the manufacturer but no feature can be ever be so attractive as to justify compromising the safety of a child. Every detail of every product is tested, without exception - from the frame to the fabric - for conformity with the high EN requirements and DIN standards. This process begins during the product development stage and continues until the final production run.
All our pushchair models are measured by the rigorous safety requirements set out in DIN EN 1888 and are certified as having satisfied the “Intertek Labtest” and “TÜV/GS AUSTRIA” safety standards. All the pushchairs, without exception, leave the ABC Design factory bearing these marks which indicate that the products have met the highest demands in terms of their mechanical safety and have satisfied the requirements set out in DIN EN 1888. They also comply with the European Community Regulation on chemicals, Regulation 1907/2006/EC (REACH Regulation), which has been in force since 1 June 2007. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. ABC Design goes one step further, however, not being content just to meet the official safety standards but wishing to exceed them. Only if the pushchairs pass all the tests do they satisfy the expectations of ABC Design. What is more, each model is put through its paces on the company’s own “real road test track”, an intensive and varied test course which guarantees top quality and supreme safety.
Besides conducting extensive checks on the frame, wheels and brakes, the inspectors also focus on the fabrics used for the products. The UPF, which stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor, is a sure indicator that your little ones will be protected. It indicates the protective category of the fabric in a similar way to the factor on suntan lotion. It tells you how long it is safe for the baby to lie in the pram if it is shaded from dangerous rays by the canopy on the pushchair or a sunshade. The UPF is also calculated in rigorous tests complying with the European Standard EN. Only textiles which pass these tests are allowed to carry the “UPF” mark indicating ultraviolet protection. All the pushchairs and sunshades which leave the ABC Design factory have been tested for conformity with the European Standard EN and bear the safety mark UPF 40+. Nor does ABC Design shrink from the strict "Australian Standard" test procedure where it achieves a convincing score of UPF 50+.
