ABC Design GmbH company history
In 2007 ABC Design can look back over almost 20 years of success. Dietmar Fischer laid the foundation stone for the company’s success when he hit upon the idea of selling high-quality children’s products at a fair cost-performance ratio in Germany. Today ABC Design leads the market in combination travel systems, exporting its products to 33 countries all over the world and always coming up with new products and novel technical solutions to stimulate the market.
1989
ABC Design is established in Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg by Dietmar Fischer and his wife Evi. The young family enterprise starts with the German market launch of the Italian pushchair brand “Monbebe”. The launch is accompanied by the specialist retail catalogue of the same name and a debut appearance with a separate exhibition stand at the “Kind + Jugend” trade fair for the baby and toddler outfitting sector.
1991
The first ABC Design collection comes onto the German market under the name “Baby Fun”. The products are manufactured at the Taiwan site.
1993
“Baby Fun” is discontinued, to be replaced by the first collection of ABC Design under the same name. Production moves to China.
1995
Childcare and sport are no longer mutually exclusive - ABC Design presents its new “Tech Rider”, the world’s first stroller with an adjustable push-bar.
1997
Childbirth is sometimes a double act - ABC Design launches its first twin pushchair. In the same year ABC Design brings out an eight-page catalogue for end consumers for the first time ever.
1998
ABC Design is on course for expansion, with its products already being sold in more than 26 countries all over the world.
1999
The fast-growing company moves into a new office building in Albbruck. A modern 5,000 square metre high-bay warehouse on the adjacent plot is fitted out with the capacity to store 2,200 pallets.
2000
ABC Design is totally on trend and kits out its first pushchair with pneumatic tyres. ABC Design launches a new product - the “Boomer” high-chair.
2001
Eastward expansion course - ABC Design makes its debut at the “Mother & Baby” trade fair in Moscow.
2003
Kids on the road - ABC Design launches its first pushchair with car seat and baby-safe. ABC Design presents end consumers with the new 2003/2004 catalogue featuring its many new products. ABC Design is presented with Moscow trade fair gold award for two of its products exhibited at the fair.
2004
Jörg Zehe is appointed to the management board and works alongside Dietmar Fischer as his deputy. He takes immediate charge of the Germany Sales and Export divisions.
2006
Pushchairs for Spain’s offspring - ABC Design makes its debut with its own exhibition stand at the “Feria Valencia de Puericultura” trade fair in Valencia.
2007
ABC Design sees its Albbruck workforce grow to 40 employees and is selling its products in 33 countries all over the world. A drive for innovation sees custom solutions coming onto the market, such as the “3-Tec” combi travel system or the “Zoom”, the smallest double buggy on the German market. Safety and quality are of equal importance to innovative product solutions at ABC Design.
The “TakeOff” folding buggy is the first product to be developed by ABC Design to win the iF product design award. In the same year the “TakeOff” is nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.
2008
The “TakeOff” stroller carries off another award, winning silver in the prestigious IDEA Awards. ABC Design showcases two attractive new products at the “Kind + Jugend” trade fair, namely the “Condor” travel system and the “Spider Bouncer” baby bouncer.
2009
The “Zoom” double buggy wins silver in the Best Baby & Infant Product Award 2009.
2010
ABC Design moves with the times and introduces the pushchair configurator for the Apple iPhone.
2011
Bernd Fischer takes over from Dietmar Fischer as the new director and joins Jörg Zehe on the management board of ABC Design.
The ABC Design catalogue is now also available for the Apple iPad.
2012
There is a new addition to the ABC Design family with the arrival of the Avus pushchair.
ABC Design attends the "Kind + Jugend" trade fair for the 25th time.
